BATON ROUGE, La (BRPROUD) ––– Residents of a Port Allen neighborhood found themselves in a bear-y sticky situation when one neighbor was alerted by her security cameras that something was in her backyard.
Tony Vindrine with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says he received a call around 6:30 Sunday morning about a Louisiana Black Bear found in a tree off Avenue G in Port Allen.
Vindrine says the bear was roughly 200lbs and was an adult male.
After securing the area, agents had to wait for a tranquilizer gun to come from Opelousas.
“We had the bear on the ground. He stood up, we had a good shot where we were supposed to place it and within the distance, we were supposed to shoot, and when we shot the bear with the tranquilizer gun, it climbed back up in a tree,” Vindrine says.
